About Us

In 1991, community members established La Comunidad Unida (United Community) to focus on integrating programs and services for families and individuals seeking local resources. Over the years 46 community members, stakeholders, and partners came together to talk about developing a welcoming center where families would be able to access services and programs that other partners or agencies were providing. With the partnership of SH Cowell Foundation and the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation, partner agencies and community members collaborated and aided in the development of the initial services and programs for the future Family Resource Center.

In 2001, thanks to the diligence and dedication of all those involved, the NTFRC opened its doors to the community under the name Kings Beach Family Resource Center. It was and continues to be incorporated in both the state of Nevada and California. In 2007 the name was changed to NTFRC to clarify that we encompass the Greater North Tahoe and West Shore community. Our agency assists between 1,200 and 1,500 community members annually through our varied programs and services.  We will continue our work of strengthening community one family at a time

 Mission

To be North Tahoe's central link between individuals and families, and the services and programs available to them.

In 2001, the North Tahoe Family Resource Center established an integrated system of support providing comprehensive services to North Lake Tahoe. Families and individuals are given access to resources and support systems that allow them to thrive and become self-sufficient. Regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic status or language, members of our community are provided with strength-based services to reach or maintain thier goals and resolve their conflicts.

Our Vision

To inform, engage and empower community members with resources that will enable them to meet their needs and become self-sufficient.

Our goals

By making individuals and families aware of the economic, political, social and environmental opportunities available to them, we increase community engagement and pride. By enabling our community members to take advantage of available resources, we are encouraging participation in and commitment to their neighborhoods in North Lake Tahoe.
